According to the latest figures published by the Federal Statistics Agency (Destatis), for the first time since 2009, German wages are down. Indeed, in 2013, inflation (1.5 percent) was higher than the general wage increase (1.3 percent). As a result, real wages were 0.2 percent lower than in 2012. The Parliament opposition is worried about this decline in times of growth, and the federal government is rather in favor of wage moderation.
