Relief in Germany : GDL, the train drivers' union, rule out any strike before the end of January. After a 16-hour marathon negotiation, the Deutsche Bahn's (DB) management and the GDL agreed, on December 4, 2007, to negotiate, until January 31, a "separate" collective agreement, as the category-specific unions has been demanding for months. According to the GDL union, train drivers got what they wanted : the guaranty of an “independent” tariff agreement (eigenständiger Tarifvertrag). In a joint press release, both parties said that they would shortly start negotiations on wages and working time for drivers who will be registered with this agreement.
