After one week of "missed" appointments between the management and the Deutsche Bahn (DB) and the GDL, and whereas the official "social truce" ended Sunday night, the drivers' unions decided to launch, from Monday October 1 at noon, a strike which should paralyze a majority of the German railroad network. Manfred Schell, chair of the GDL union, did not accept the last minute offers the DB made on Sunday night to German train drivers – that is a wage increase of about 10% – which he qualifies as “terrible provocation”. As a consequence, the GDL decided to strike from Monday in the middle of the day.
