…Germany: the social partners together with the government recommend setting up ‘business laboratories’ to test mobile working
On 31 May the working group on ‘a digital working world’, chaired by Andréa Nahles, the Minister for Employment and Social Affairs and Jörg Hoffmann, the president of the IG Metall union, and comprising representatives of all the stakeholders in the world of work and science, presented its first interim report on digitalization of the working world. The document addresses in particular the issue of ‘flexible work in terms of time and place’. The report and those who produced it are part of a larger government process, namely the German government’s digital agenda, which is meant to get German society as ‘match-fit’ as possible for the undergoing digital revolution. For the world of work report, the working group presented a realistic synthesis of the situation including expectations as well as barriers that the digital revolution is creating. In recognizing how complex the subject actually is, the idea is to first launch a controlled trial via the setting up of ‘digital business laboratories’.
