Germany: the specter of an unlimited strike at the Deutsche Post is coming closer

After the "marathon negotiation" on the working conditions of the 130.000 employees and 55.000 civil servants working at the Deutsche Post failed on April 17 and 18, the services' union Ver.di extended its warning strikes to the entire country. From April 25 to April 29, the company's staff will be asked to vote for an unlimited strike starting on May 2. It would be the biggest strike at the Deutsche Post since 1994. (Ref. 080326)

According to Ver.di, in the night between April 20 to April 21, nine post stations were affected by the strikes in Berlin, Dresden, Duisburg, Freising, Hamburg, Hanover, Mainz, Stuttgart and Wiesbaden. Almost 3 million letters arrived late in these regions. On April 22, the movement was extended to mailboxes (Postfachzustellung) in almost 40 cities. Employees “are furious.
