The beginning of the summer period is about to be stormy in Germany. Indeed, the German train drivers' trade union (GDL) announced on June 19, that it would launch a strike at the beginning of July to protest against the Deutsche Bahn's (DB) refusal to conclude a separate tariff agreement. The same day, the DB and railroaders' unions Transnet and GDBA officially started their wage negotiations. (Ref. 070548)
Employees from the German railroad company are represented by three unions, maintaining difficult relations. On one side are two large unions Transnet and GDBA, who work jointly and defending the interests of all of the DB’s employees. On the other side, there is the GDL union which exclusively represents locomotive drivers, and which judges that Transnet’s claims are insufficient.
