Germany: unions accuse the Deutsche Post of avoiding minimum wage

In a pilot-project, from March 1, the Deutsche Post AG wants paper careers to deliver non-addressed advertisement instead of its own mailmen. The Ver.di and DPVKOM unions are furious and accuse the Deutsche Post of wanting to avoid the legal minimum wage which came into effect on January 1, 2008, which the Deutsche Post vigorously refutes. From March 1 to April 30, paper careers from the media group “Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitungsgruppe ” (WAZ) will be responsible for delivering non-addressed advertisements to about 732.000 homes in the Essen city and surroundings. If the experience is conclusive, the Deutsche Post wants to extend this cooperation with other publishers.
