In charge of transposing into its legal order, by January 5, 2011, the new Community directive on European Works Councils (2009/38, see our dispatch No. 081026), the German government adopted, on December 15th, a proposal for the amendment of the “Act on European Works Councils” (Europäische Betriebsräte-Gesetzes – EBRG, see our dispatch No. 100898). Now, the bill is going to go through the Bundestag at first, then the Bundesrat (House of Länder) and the DGB says it should come into force before the deadline laid down in the directive.
