The German employers’ federation of the metal industry (Gesamtmetall) and the IG Metall trade union launched, on February 7, 2006, wage negotiations in this area which employs some 3,4 million employees. (Ref. 06106)
Like always, the claims of IG Metall are very far from employers’ proposals. Whereas the metal industry’s powerful federation claims wage increases of 5%, the employers’ organization would only offer rises “at neutral cost” for companies, that is to say hardly more than 1%.
