Gorenje is one of the biggest manufacturers of domestic appliances (small and large electrical appliances, heating, air conditioning). Established in Slovenia, this company has 10,895 employees, generated 1.26 billion in sales in 2012, and is the most international firm in Slovenia with an international sales network in 80 countries across the globe. Therefore, establishing a European Works Council is in keeping with the company’s constant internationalization. The agreement on the establishment of the EWC was signed on December 18. Subsidiarity and ‘best social bidder’ clause. In the introductory provisions, the agreement states that the EWC complements workers’ representations existing at the level of individual states and shall not replace them. The agreement also contains a clause of ‘best social bidder’: it doesn’t affect any rights to information and consultation to which employees are entitled by the law of individual states, except in case that standards of information and consultation regulated in this Agreement
