Great Britain: BMW and Unite sign agreement on the permanent recruitment of 1,000 agency workers

Following a deal struck between the Unite union and BMW, 1,000 agency workers will be given permanent contracts with guaranteed job security beyond 2020. Seven hundred are to be made permanent before Christmas 2013 and the remaining 300 agency workers will be made permanent after 1 January 2014. The deal applies to agency workers across BMW sites including Swindon Pressing, Hams Hall, Rolls Royce Motor Cars and BMW UK manufacturing Oxford.  BMW already employs 5,000 permanent workers. The agency workers will then benefit from joining the company’s car scheme, getting paid holidays, receiving sick pay and being eligible to join the company pension scheme. Unite and BMW have also agreed to an annual review of the scheme in order to ensure it remains fit for purpose.
