For the first time, specialist work coaches will spend time helping young NEETs (individuals ‘not in employment, education or training’) at Jobcentres across Britain. It is a step which echoes David Cameron’s call to fight against ‘youth inactivity’, as part of his electoral program.
They are not working and they are not studying. Young British NEETs will now be able to go to Jobcentres and get support from expert coaches, who will help them to renew their ties with the world of work or education. The scheme has been tested in a handful of centres since May and Cameron’s government has just announced an extension of this new support program, for young people between 16 and 17 not receiving unemployment benefit, to around 30 sites.
