The Department of Trade and Industry l wants to make the Sunday trading restrictions more flexible. (Ref. 06131)
The DTI is considering to change the law which differentiates the small and large shops. As a matter of fact, the current law, dating from 1994, limits the opening of large shops to 6 continual hours on Sunday, between 10am to 6pm. There no restrictions applying for small shops. Besides, according to this regulation, the shop workers have the right to refuse to work on Sundays. This protection should remain in the coming rule.
