For unions trying to enter a company, being granted direct access to the workplace is a way to ensure a successful unionisation campaign. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that this right is becoming, more and more, a prerequisite and that organizations take special action to get it. The Unite union has gained the right to meet with workers following a major campaign targeting the DP World deep sea super container port for London called the London Gateway, which received the support of Spanish dockers and the other British port, Southampton. After lobbying the mayor of Liverpool, the Labour politician, Joe Anderson, UCATT has been able to gain access to all the workers on the sites of the town’s programme of renovation.
Unite has made a significant step forward in its campaign to gain union recognition from the DP World deep sea super container port for London called the London Gateway.
