A study from the Working Families association shows that many employers turn down or daunt employees' requests for flexible work. They are protesting together with human resources managers. (Ref. 080313)
The Working Families association based its report on 5.000 calls to its helpline, concluding that laws on flexible work are not very efficient since they were introduced five years ago. Employers’ attitude is criticized. Indeed, the reasons given to refuse flexibility go from “the job needs to be full time” to “this job can’t be part-time, so you will have to resign” and “this is going to influence quality” or even “it is impossible to reallocate the work to the existing staff”.
