Cap. The UK’s conservative-liberal government agreed to introduce a figured immigration target. With this new strategy, the UK is turning to “managed” or “select” immigration. On November 23rd, the government announced that the annual maximum cap would be 21,700 “skilled” workers, including 1,000 “highly-skilled” workers, i.e. about 6,000 workers less than in 2009. To reassure the business world though, the government decided to exclude workers coming to the country within the framework of intra-group posting. This will affect workers posted for over a year and earning over £40,000 a year. They will be able to stay up to five years. Those earning over £24,000 can nevertheless still be posted for less than a year.
