The government postponed the extension of maternity leave to six months, aimed at encouraging fathers to share it with mothers, because of the recession. Now, every piece of legislation is scanned through the prism of the economic crisis. Employers, who were rather hostile to a measure they judged expensive and complicated, are relieved. (Ref. 090597)
Reform of parental leave suspended. This proposition, announced in 2005 (see our dispatch No. 06555), should have been enforced this year to allow mothers and fathers to share part of the maternity leave. If the mother went back to work earlier, the father could receive compensation if he took over.
