Great Britain: job offer, internship or training for every young person out of work for six months

Make sure young people won’t pay for the recession. This program, entitled “Young Person’s Guarantee” is part of the “Backing Young Britain” program that already helped around 100,000 young people find a job or training. The government decided to improve the fight against youth unemployment to make sure it won’t rise after the recession officially ends. Initially, this measure was aimed for young people looking for a job for 12 months, but it was extended to those looking for a job for six months in December 2009 (see our dispatch No. 091148). From now on, these youth will be guided by specialized advisers who will direct them towards recruiting sectors, help them become self-employed, find an internship or training, and apply for new jobs created via the “Future Jobs Fund,” endowed with one billion pounds (€1.15 billion). As of April 2010, they will have to accept one of the guarantees offered if they reach ten months out of work.
