More than half of the jobs created in 2005 (85 0000 out of 147 0000) are occupied by people who exceed the retirement age (65 for men, 60 for women). This category, which amounted to around 8 % of the working population since the middle of the 90's, suddenly increased to 10,4 % during the last quarter of last year. The majority are in their 60’s, but it is not rare to see really old people, of 80 or 90 years of age, working in supermarkets. Most of them work part-time (67% of men, 86% of women) to supplement a too small pension, and/or for pleasure (to maintain social links, to remain active…)
