Great Britain: new agreement in engineering construction gives preference to the employment of local workforce

New agreement for 2010-11. Quiet is finally back in a sector which should make at least ten nuclear reactors by 2030. Almost 30,000 workers voted yes to an agreement on wages and working conditions, which will replace the 1981 agreement which used to govern relations between workers and businesses. This new agreement will last from January 2010 to December 2011. In October 2009, Unite and GMB members rejected a first proposal by the ECIA, because it was still not clear enough regarding job security and the recruitment of foreign workers – two sensitive points which were the central claims of the workers who carried on outlaw strikes this year (see our dispatch No. 090665).
