Context. Nearly 50% of FTSE 250 businesses have no women on their boards. In 2010, women accounted for only 12.5% of board members in FTSE 100 directors. This is up from 2004 (9.4%) but, at the current rate of change, it will take over 70 years to achieve gender-balanced boardrooms. In August 2010, Business Secretary and Women’s Minister asked Lord Davies for a study on action to take to increase the percentage of women on boards. Lord Davies received over 2,600 answers from the parties involved in the consultation. Here are his recommendations:
