Great Britain: over one million storekeepers assaulted in one year

More threats and insults.  The results of this survey are derived from 1,200 responses received from Usdaw members between July and September this year.  In the past 12 months, 6% of shopworkers were subjected to violent attack, 37% were threatened and 70% had suffered verbal abuse. Knowing that over 2.9 million people work in retail, and that 60% of these are directly serving the public, it means there have been well over a million incidents of this type over that period.  Compared with 2009, assault incidents have slightly decreased, but threats and insults have increased.  Usdaw, UK's fourth biggest trade union (390,000 members) said these figures were shocking.
