British employers are carefully watching the papers to know what the government is going to decide in terms of parental leave. Indeed, this issue has become the bone of contention within the government coalition and could even be decisive for the elections. While the team of the conservative Prime Minister, Cameron, promised to introduce parental leave shared between mothers and fathers in April 2015, the presentation of this reform was postponed in recent weeks following political disagreements within the coalition. For the ‘lib-dems,’ parental leave should last for 15 months and the parents should be able to share it, taking up to 6 turns without warning the company 28 days in advance as the government’s project provides. Besides, the parental reform should also guarantee the right to keep the same job, whereas today businesses have the right to propose an “equivalent” position when the parent comes back.
