The conflict between Royal Mail and the sector's union CWU which burst last June, worsened last week with the announcement of a strike in October. They denounced wage increases which are too low according to postmen and the plan to modernize the public company, which would threaten 40.000 jobs. The Unite trade union, which represents 12.000 managers within the company, is also threatening of joining strikers. (Ref. 070803)
A four-day strike in October – The CWU confirmed the post’s strike on October 5 and 6 as well as on October 8 and 9, if Royal Mail does not reconsider its propositions.
