Great Britain : publication of a national report on disabled people

The Office for disability issues (ODI), created in December 2005 within the framework of the launching of a large national fight against discrimination throughout society, its first annual report was published on July 13. It will have to measure year by year the advance of the Government's project to reach equality before 2025. A whole chapter is dedicated to the question of employment. (Ref. 06744)

Chapter 3 deals with the issue of employment. The report stresses that handicapped people, physically or mentally, have the weakest rate of employment in the working-age population: less than 50%, compared to 74,8% for the average working population. But this figure was less than 40% in 1998. The progression is slow but regular. Currently, 2.6 million handicapped people work.
