Only 10% of the 582 human resources and recruitment managers consulted use the social network sites to attract candidates with only a minority making use of blogs, videos or an alternative technology. Firms in the private sector recruit far more than public organizations with these new internet tools. Emmy Parry, a researcher at Cranfield, commented the results of the survey: “If the social networks are little used as a recruitment tool, this is because recruiters do not consider them as a credible mean of communication, although most of the targeted people use them on a regular basis”. In her opinion, recruiters are wrong not to use these tools which would afford greater interactivity of their sites and encourage jobseekers to contact them. The 10% of organizations using social networks sites privilege Likedln (63%), Facebook (39%) and MySpace (21%). Less than half of them have contacted directly potential employers via these sites, while a third had a page on their companies.
