Great Britain: Royal Mail workers say yes to the agreement signed between the management and the CWU

CWU satisfied. “This is a strong ballot result for a strong deal” declared Dave Ward, CWU deputy general secretary. “And we're delighted that our members have fully supported this hard fought for agreement.” Calling for better industrial relations in the company, the union leader pointed out that, “Now the challenge is on for us all to prove in practice that we can all work together to build a positive future for our industry, our members and the public whom we serve.”

Compromises on both sides. The agreement was signed on March 8th (see our dispatch No. 100212), ending the waves of strikes that shook the company up in 2009. Thus, employees are getting a 6.9% wage increase over three years but will work one hour less a week, and modern machines delivering mail
