A study carried out by the university of Edinburgh sound the alarm concerning the dangers represented by carbon nanotubes. These first industrial products resulting from nanotechnologies could be as hazardous on health as asbestos. (Ref. 080497)
Nanometric pollution. Carbon nanotubes, composed of very strong and very light fiber, are seen as the new ‘flagship’ material in electronics. However, according to the study carried out by the Safety of Nano-materials Interpisciplinary Research Centre (SnIRC) from the University of Edinburgh, plurilayer carbon nanotubes (as opposed to monolayer nanotubes, with shorter fibers), have the same toxic power as asbestos. These results were revealed after injecting nanotubes with long and short fibers
