With no further meetings planned, the Unite union – which represents the cabin crew – is planning to organise a further ballot for strike action which – if producing a ‘yes’ vote - would allow more strikes to called in August when the general public tend to go abroad because of the school holidays. The new ballot is being organised because the twelve week period of ‘protected action’ from the earlier ballot of February 2010 has expired. ‘Protected action’ prevents an employer from being able to dismiss workers on strike as a result of a lawful ballot for strike action.
