Press review of 1 to 7 April 2006. Retirement pensions were very much discussed this week, with the publication on April 4 of the 3rd Turner Commission Report, asked by the Government to submit proposals, and the entry into force of the savings plans reform. (Réf. 06343)
The final report of the Commission confirms its previous recommendations (significant increase in public retirement pensions, and creation of a national retirement savings plan fed by compulsory employer and employee contributions). The press nevertheless took a big laugh when on 5April, Gordon Brown, the Finance Minister, up to now firmly opposed to the recommendations of Adair Turner on the calculation and the amount of public pensions, announced that he reconsidered his position.
