Great Britain: tougher stand against temporary work agencies that fail to apply minimum wage

Complex cases of abuses. The new team, called “Dynamic Response Team,” was created in January 2010 from within “Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs” – HMRC. It is going to work on the most complicated cases this administration is faced with, particularly in sectors where employers appeal to immigrant workers and pay them below minimum wage to block competition. Composed of very well trained specialists, a ₤70 million (€77.7 million) government fund is financing it, based on the taxes non- European immigrant workers have to pay. All temporary employers, businesses and agencies are concerned by this change. The new team will work together with other departments and local administrations to make sure appropriate sanctions are applied against abusive employers – penal or civil legal proceedings.
