Great Britain: unions are choosing candidates for the leadership of the Labour Party

There are currently fifteen unions affiliated to the Labour Party, comprising some 3.5 million members. The unions are the Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen (Aslef), Broadcasting, Entertainment, Cinematograph and Theatre Union (Bectu), Bakers, Food and Allied Workers Union (BFAWU), Community, Communication Workers’ Union (CWU), the GMB general union, the Musicians’ Union, National Association of Colliery Overmen, Deputies and Shotfirers NACODS), the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM), Transport Salaried Staffs’ Association (TSSA), Union of Construction, Allied Trades and Technicians (UCATT), the public sector union UNISO, the Unite union, Unity and the Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers (USDAW).
