The recent success of the Unite union in gaining recognition at a number of sizeable employers indicates how both its ‘100%’ campaign and leverage strategy are operating and impacting upon employers.
The ‘100%’ campaign is based upon identifying workplaces where Unite has a reasonably high density and which can then be used as a firm foundation from which to work towards 100% membership in the bargaining unit or overall organisation. The ‘leverage’ strategy comprises using forms of action outside the workplace and in the community to put pressure upon employers to concede to Unite’s demands.
