With the country facing a heatwave since the beginning of July (temperatures exceeding 40°C), on 12 July the Conservative government introduced measures to protect workers. Outdoor manual work is to be suspended between midday and 5 p.m. when the heat index (a function of temperature and humidity) exceeds 32°C.
