Greece’s parliament approved a bill to liberalise labour rules on 16 October. The legislation allows employers to hire more easily, expands overtime, and permits working days of up to 13 hours with the same employer. It also enables the splitting of annual paid leave and gives parents the option to work a four-day week.
On 16 October, the Greek parliament adopted in plenary session the bill entitled ‘Fair Work for All’, by 158 votes to 109. The text, which aims to “respond to the needs and challenges of the labour market” and to “protect and ease the lives of workers and businesses”, was submitted for public consultation from 29 August to 19 September, leading to the incorporation of more than 45 proposals from social partners and citizens into the bill.
