On October 27, Daimler signed a contract concerning the construction of a factory in Kecskemét. It is the first assembly plant for the Mercedes brand in an eastern European country. (Ref. 080832)
It all started a couple years ago when Daimler started looking for a site to produce small vehicles. Several sites were visited in central Europe: Romania, Slovakia, Poland and Hungary. In the end, the application of Kecskemét, a city located less than an hour from Budapest, was accepted in spite of a more expensive workforce than in Romania or Slovakia.
