VASAS, the metals union federation, has announced an initial wave of strike action to take place during the summer months in six businesses within the auto sector, the names of which have not been divulged. Industrial relations have soured further since the start of the year (c.f. article No. 9499) and employers are starting to understand that sticking a ‘patch’ on each and every strike threat is no longer enough and they now fear that the accumulated social disenchantment will lead to large-scale social movement.
A very tense situation in the autosector. For Zoltan Laszio, VASAS Vice-President the situation in the auto industry is particularly tense with the sector regularly operating with 20%- 30% vacant positions. In addition, almost half of the new hires end up leaving after only a few weeks in the recruitment criteria.
