Representatives of 25 aerospace unions in 16 countries across 5 continents came together on July 01 and 02 for a global conference on strengthening union presence in the sector and structuring work for the next 3 to 4 years. Underlining major challenges facing workers in the section the action plan adopted by the delegates comprises 5 points that particularly target union presence and precarious work. Global framework agreements and business networks were championed during the conference.
Major challenges facing the sector’s workers.The delegates raised the issue of a trend towards subcontracting work to countries without union presence. Unequal competition by some countries such as China who do not respect international commercial regulations was highlighted as a growing problem especially as regards the transfer of technology as well as production.
