Allied Irish Bank, one of the largest banks in Ireland, has become the first employer to respond to requests from the Financial Services Union (FSU) and develop a best practice policy on the use of communications tools within the company, which should allow staff to disconnect.
The move comes amid the increasing focus on the right to disconnect in Ireland. The FSU, a union that represents workers in a sector highly exposed to ultra-connectivity, through its use of various technological channels, launched a campaign in 2019 to make the right to disconnect a topic of discussion with companies and called for legislative action on the matter (see article n°11419). The issue is also of increasing importance on a political level.
