On November 17, 2008, the trade unions and employers approved the transitional agreement 2008-09 on wages (see our dispatch No. 080717) which is part of the second phase of the "Towards 2016" social pact (see our dispatch No. 06855). In addition to the wage measures, which take into account the current economic context, the agreement plans a series of social governmental initiatives. (Ref. 080925)

planned a series of social and wage initiatives for a first application phase
lasting 27 months. When it expired, the government and the social partners concluded
a “Transitional Agreement on pay and workplace issues 2008-09” to meet the
current economic challenges and changes. This agreement will last for 21
months.
