On 24 June the Israeli trade union organization Histadrut signed two collective agreements for employees of the Israeli-American company Comverse. The agreements cover conditions for workers due to be transferred to the Indian company Tech Mahindra that has just concluded a partnership agreement with Comverse. The hi-tech sector is key for the Israeli economy and is one of the most dynamic industries in the country. Histadrut sees these two agreements as a great success since the union had only received management recognition three months previously and the agreements are the first of their kind in the sector.
Comverse was set up in Israel in 1984 and is the flagship for the country’s hi-tech industry, and especially in the area of cyber-security. The company designs software for telecommunications and espionage and is currently headquartered in the United States following several waves of layoffs and financial scandals.
