The Unione Syndicale di Base (USB), which ran for the first time for the RSU election in Ilva in Taranto – the largest factory in Italy – on November 27-29, is becoming the second largest union there. This is the biggest national victory for this union, which is also gaining ground in other RSU elections across the country. The union claims this is a “quality leap that could reshape the Italian union landscape,” offering an alternative to “collaboration with businesses and markets the way the Cisl and Uil do it,” and to the CGIL’s strategy, “asserting principles it hasn’t been implementing for years.” (Ref. 130768)
