Italy: CGIL launches a general strike on June 25th against the government’s economic maneuver

The CGIL’s executive committee, gathered in Rome on June 7-9, unanimously approved the proposal made by general secretary Gugliemo Epifani to organize a general strike on June 25th, “for at least four hours in the private sector and 24 in the public sector.” since four hours are a minimum, some unions already announced an extension, as in Lombardy where they are planning an eight-hour strike in the private sector. This strike adds up with the CGIL’s other initiatives against the government’s economic maneuver (see our dispatch No. 100424) - which it qualifies of “erroneous and unfair” – such as the national demonstration of public administrations and schools’ civil servants on Saturday, June 12th.
