Despite the huge protest by the CGIL (Italian General Confederation of Labor), which on Saturday 25 October united at least one million participants according to organisers, the government has no intention of altering its plans. After a meeting yesterday with social partners, the government reiterated that there will be no negotiations with trade unions on draft laws. The general strike called by the leader of the CGIL, which she announced in the concluding speech of the protest, will most likely be the union’s next step.
