The decline in global demand for oil products and competition from Asian countries have driven Eni Group to take action in order to “ensure the competitiveness of the system” and increase investment to “increase research, production, transportation, conversion and commercialization of oil and natural gas.” In this context, the group signed, on Thursday, May 26th, with the Filctem-CGIL, Femca-Cisl, and Uilcem-Uil unions, an agreement on “development and competitiveness and for a new system of industrial relations.” Eni provides nearly €53 billion in investments for the 2011-12 period, 28% for Italy, i.e. almost €15bn for the Gela refinery (Sicily), the development of the Val d’Argi field (Basilicata) and the restructuring of the Porto Torres pole, among others. In order to “increase the operational efficiency by getting in line with the best practices,” Eni will propose to the trade unions, this year, new systems of labor organization to negotiate their application onsite.
