Italy: Federmeccanica terminates the last unitary metal CCN, raising the possibility of the marginalization of the Fiom-CGIL

On Tuesday, September 7th, Federmeccanica’s management empowered its leader, Pierluigi Ceccardi, to immediately terminate, “in a purely technical fashion and as a precaution, to better protect businesses” the last unitary metal collective agreements (see our dispatch No. 080173), which will expire on December 31, 2011.  the leader said that this formal act is aimed to prevent legal action from the Fiom, pointing out that the analysis of union relations after the 2009 separate agreement on the renewal of CCNs (see our dispatch No. 090945) and the Fiat Pomigliano case drove the employers’ association to “resolutely go on” with the adequacy of industrial and conventional relations with “increased flexibility” requested by 12,000 businesses to face global competition.  Thus, Federmeccanica called on the signatory unions of this last CCN on September 15th to open negotiations on possible exceptions and to define special regulations for the auto sector.
