Italy: Filcem-CGIL launches collective bargaining for over 500,000 employers in four sectors

Waiting for a “universal collective bargaining system.” After presenting a separate platform in electricity (see our dispatch No. 090705), the Filcem-CGIL is now presenting four new claim platforms for the renewal of collective agreements in chemistry/pharmaceutical industry; energy/oil; rubber/plastic and gas/water, for a total of over 500,000 employees. The assembly of executives and union representatives (September 14-18) elected delegations for the negotiations and validated – after “thousands of meetings between late July and early September on all work site”- the platforms. The first negotiation round will be on October 6 in chemistry/pharmaceutical industry. Convinced that unions’ unity can be restored via the “content” and the “democratic relationship with workers,” for a “universal conventional system,” Alberto Morselli, Filcem leader, said that he was, nevertheless, aiming for a “unitary agreement” with the other unions.
