On 16 July both management centers in Fim-Cisl and Uilm-Uil approved a common platform to renew the metal sector national collective agreement (from 2016-2018) that comes to expiry on 31 December 2015 and impacts 1.6 million workers. The unions are demanding in particular more worker participation and consultation as well as vocational training to renew Italy’s industry. They are also looking for salaries to rise by 105€ per month. The renewal of this agreement will probably be like those in 2009 and 2012 in so far as Fim and Uilm will sign and Fiom-CGIL will not. After 7 months of tense talks the Fim and Uilm have decided to proceed alone and present a common front.
Increase worker participation. To strengthen worker participation the common platform intends for a series of company level bodies and procedures that ensure the right to information (with employee representative bodies (RSUs) having access to all information necessary to come to an opinion) the right to consultation (active dialogue between management and workers representatives), and the right to participation (allowing worker representatives to actively participate in decision making)....
