Italy: first “Charter for equal opportunities and parity at work”

Diversity as a key to competitiveness and success. Directly based on French and German initiatives, the “Charter for equal opportunities and parity at work” (Carta per le pari opportunità e l’uguaglianza sul lavoro) was presented in Milan on October 5 by the chair of the Sodalitas foundation (see our dispatch No. 080473), Diana Bracco. Developed by Sodalitas, AIDAF, AIDDA, Impronta Etica, UCID, and the Ufficio Nazionale Consigliera di Parità, with the support of the Ministry for Labor and Parity, this is the first “diversity charter” in Italy. The signatory businesses commit to “help fighting all forms of discrimination on the workplace and value diversity within the company, notably by promoting equal opportunities between men and women.” The promoting committee qualified the signing of this charter as an “equity act” contributing to social cohesion as well as the company’s competitiveness and success, “showing its ability to cope with society and market changes.”
