On June 15, the transport unions concluded an agreement with Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane Spa (FS) and Trenitalia Spa* on common action to be taken to combat attacks on their personnel. Assaults on staff have been more frequent in recent years and the signatories to the agreement are going to put together a list of those trains where service will be only be guaranteed on the proviso of there being some police presence.
An extremely serious machete attack on a member of Trenord ** (Rail transport company in Lombardy) staff in Milan on the evening of June 11 sparked significant strike action by rail workers who operate in the north of Italy.
